Something that has been near and dear to my heart since I was 14 is becoming a larger part of my life and I could not be happier.
For years I have loved missions since I was in jr. high and at many points in my life have considered becoming a full time missionary. In 2003 I was afforded the opportunity to go to Zambia for a couple of weeks - a trip that will always be near and dear to my heart. One year later, I was able to go back (I know #mostblessedpersonalive). My missions life was on hold for 10 years . . . 10 years way too long. In June 2014 I went to Haiti with Compassion International and my passion for missions grew back to the raging fire that it once was!!
Last week, my pastor, Terry and Kim (a sweet employee at church who has been in charge of all thing missions since I moved back to SLC in 2005) asked me to join them for a meeting. I was asked to take over all the missions related events at our church. I am now the proud "owner" of all thing Compassion International (from getting more kids sponsored to planning and attending future mission trips) as well as all mission trips with Samaritan's Purse (another ministry I love).
Our church currently has two projects we sponsor through Compassion. One is in Haiti (the project I was at in June) and the other is in Kenya (plans are well underway for a trip in February 2016 - and yes, I am accepting donations - haha).
I could not be more excited about this project!!! There is a lot of work to be done to get our Compassion stuff back to the level it used to be (Kim was also in charge of our children's ministry at church - so missions haven't had as much attention, recently). It is also a little overwhelming - but I am seriously sooooo excited!!!
Serving Him,
Jess
