For those familiar with the Pinewood Derby, you know it is a Boy Scout tradition to make and race cars! Well, I have no boys, but Haylee is participating in a Pinewood Derby. Both of the girls are in Missionettes (also known as MPact). This program is like Girl Scouts, with a focus on God. Girl Scouts is very general (so as not to exclude any persons beliefs). While many of their activities and ideas are great, there are a few key things I don't agree with (including their view/idea of God). While some may consider me to be closed minded in not wanting to expose the girls to and support ideas that do not line up with the Bible, I am very conscious to let them participate in things that are in line with the Bible. Missionettes is an alternative to Girl Scouts, in that they work on and earn badges, go to camp etc. The difference is that this program is completely Bible based. They memorize Bible verses every week, and learn Christian values that I can stand behind 110%. Autumn is a "Prim" and Haylee is a "Star".
Haylee's group is doing a Pinewood Derby, and she was anxious to ask my dad to help her build her car. My dad was a Scout Master for years, as well as a master pinewood derby builder. Last night Dad helped Haylee build her car using the Delgado tricks of the trade that are neither illegal or unfair. After years of helping Matt build winning cars, he knows all the tricks to making your car run smooth, with 25% less friction :o)
I did take super cute pictures of my dad and Haylee working on the car, but for whatever reason, my computer is not recognizing the card . . . so I promise to upload pictures as soon as I can.
Haylee's 10th birthday is on Tuesday, so tomorrow we are celebrating her birthday. She is very much into detective stuff, so I found stuff online to have a "mystery birthday party". "The Case of the Missing Bracelet" is the theme, and it is a play of sorts. Haylee is the great granddaughter of a Dame (played by me) and is receiving an heirloom bracelet from her great grandmother. With Haylee and all her friends gathered for the presentation, the bracelet goes missing. The girls will work together to find it!!! In the end they will find the bracelet . . . Jody and I bought Haylee a James Avery charm bracelet with one charm. The charm is a heart with a cross cut out of it. With each birthday through her teen years, we will add a charm to her bracelet that represents that year of her life. In the end it will be a little collection of her pre-teen and teen years as she grows into the woman God is crafting her to be!
I am sure that I will have lots of fun pictures to share!!!
Serving Him,
Jess
P.S. Please pray, pray, pray for Jody's dad!! He is not doing well, and another trip to St. George is in the planning stages. I am praying for open doors to his heart. Mark needs to know Jesus loves him, died for him, and wants his life. Please pray that God will be preparing Mark's heart even now, softening it, preparing it and touching it. Pray that Jody and I will be able to share the truth with him, that he would accept Jesus as Lord of his life!!!
Thanks, Prayer Warriors!!!!!
