The Gift of Learning . . .

Last night we did our first Ultimate Gift project . . .The Gift of Learning. Here is the letter the girls read
Haylee and Autumn:

This first gift is the gift of learning. This is not the traditional type of learning that you do every day in school, but rather learning to appreciate the differences we all have! The type of learning you do at school is oh so important and you should realize how lucky you are to have such an opportunity. Millions of people don’t even get the chance to learn to read and write, especially in the comfort of a nice new school building. Take in all you can through your school years. In life, people can rob you of all you have, your money, your belongings, your family and friends, but they can’t take away that which you store in your head, all that you have learned!

Today’s activity is called “In Your Shoes”. This is a 2 part activity in which we all will participate. For the first part of this activity, we will need 4 pieces of paper and 4 pens. Each family member’s name has been written on a piece of paper and we will each draw a name (making sure that we all get someone else). For whoever’s name we draw, we must first trace that persons foot, then inside the foot, write down 3 ways that person if different than ourselves. The goal of this activity is to gain an understanding of how we all are different and to learn to appreciate the role we each have in this family! The second part of this activity will take us to a fun place where together we will create a work of art that can be displayed in our home as a reminder of this gift!
Here is Jody tracing Haylee's foot! Jody got Haylee, Haylee got Autumn, Autumn got me and I got Jody. Once we got done with this part of the activity we told the girls we were going to Color Me Mine. It is this fun little place that has ready-to-paint pottery!!!
The girls had a specific assignment. Put the their footprint on a plate and make it into a butterfly!

Here are the plates with their feet on them! Autumn has really flat feet . . .which actually worked a bit better for this project. We had to fill Haylee's foot in a bit on her plate!

The girls got to pick their own colors and design the rest of the plate.
Then I wrote "In Your Shoes" at the bottom of the plate. The plates will serve as a way to reward and recognize the girls when they do noteworthy things. For example if they do something nice for someone without being asked or expecting anything in return, then they get to eat off their plate for dinner. The girls are way excited about it!
We had lots of fun painting and now we have to wait 5 days before we can pick our plates up (they have to be fired still). I can't wait to see the finished product!!!
This weekend Haylee and I will be headed to Park City for the ultimate sleepover as date #1 in this SKG series! Haylee told me she is so excited can could hardly sleep on Sunday night!!! I have to admit, i am excited too! We will be joining 5 other moms/daughters at a condo, spending the night and then going tubing on Saturday!!!
I will be sure to take lots of pictures, as it is sure to be a fun activity!
Serving Him,
Jess
