Our Little Falcon . . .

A week or so ago I got a call from Autumn's school and was informed that Autumn won the "Falcon of the Quarter" award.  This is the highest award you can receive at her school and only six boys and six girls per grade win the award each year and you can only receive it once.  A teacher has to nominate you for the award and then the nominated students are whittled down through a process of checking their grades, behavior and involvement - then those with the highest vote, win.  We had to write a bio and letters to Autumn and were invited to a breakfast at her school - all of this is kept a secret until it happens - so Autumn had no clue.

Then there was a hiccup . . .
Autumn woke up this morning feeling like she was going to throw up.  I gave her some crackers and tried to help her feel better, hoping she would go to school.  Autumn RARELY stays home from school sick, so I knew she really wasn't feeling well.  Finally, when she decided she didn't want to go, I had to spill the beans and tell her about the award breakfast.  Autumn cried - disappointed in not being able to receive her award and asked if she could go to school.  Haha!  She decided she could go to school and to the breakfast, then we would check her out (I hated to see her miss this one time thing).

She made it through the breakfast, received her award and decided she was well enough to stay in school . . . so there you have it!!  here is Autumn with her award.

And here is the bio we submitted and was read to the group  . . .

Autumn is just a few days away from 13 and in 7th grade.  She stepped into the role of “Jr. Higher” without a hiccup and is enjoying new friendships, classes and experiences everyday!  Autumn is one of the kindest most generous young ladies around, always looking for ways to help and encourage anyone she can.  It is not uncommon for Autumn to give up receiving gifts for her birthday to give to others, instead.  She currently has her eyes set on a week long trip to Haiti in June 2015 to work in a child development center with Compassion International.   Autumn loves to sing, read, and run, both casually and competitively.  Autumn loves to hang out with her friends, attend her church youth group and takes great pride in maintaining good grades.  Autumn has a great sense of humor and keeps everyone laughing!

Autumn received a booklet with letters from Jody and I and every one of her teachers!!  I couldn't help but swell with tears and pride as I read how her teachers feel about her.  Of course, we think Autumn is great, but we are biased - to see that she is such a happy, well behaved and helpful student makes me so proud.

Serving Him,
Jess
