Hunkerd Down . . .

For those of you who don't know, hunkering is a Texas term referring to the state you might find yourself in as you prepare to wait out a hurricane. Safely inside the house, you make no attempt at leaving, but rather play games, enjoy each others company and wait for the storm to pass. Although we do not have hurricanes in Utah, we did hunker down this weekend to let a storm pass!!!

All week there were reports of an impending storm on Saturday that would bring rain and possibly 6 inches of snow!!! Jody had suggested a family game day would be fun . . . so we set plans in motion to insure a fun, food filled day of games! Saturday morning came and with dark clouds over head, we were in no rush to get out of our jammies. We made a nutritious breakfast of cinnamon bites and began our "game day". We played Monopoly, Yahtzee, Hullabaloo, The Dice Game and more! Mid morning the snow started falling, and I took a picture of our first snow of the year . . .

At this point I could be very dramatic and tell you that it snowed all day, trapping us inside and that we had to be rescued by the National Guard . . . but the truth is the snow didn't stick to anything and was gone in a matter of minutes!!! It was cold out, but the storms that passed were barely threatening, nonetheless, our game day was fun!!!

Here are some pictures of the girls playing games! I think I forgot to mention that Haylee got glasses a few weeks ago. The thick, black frames are very dramatic against her light skin and blond hair.
Sunday morning we woke up to a bit more snow, but not much really. Enough to stick to the cars and rooftops! After church, Sunday brought another day of relaxing and enjoying time at home. The girls played in their room building a fort and playing in the tub with their Little Pet Shop animals.
I have to stop at this point and go back to Friday night. The girls and I decided that it would be fun to build a puzzle (not a necessary part of the story, but as a side note, I ended up doing the whole 750 piece puzzle by myself with the exception of about 30 pieces). As the night got late, Autumn was tired and went to bed, Jody was fighting a cold and was asleep as well, leaving Haylee and I in the living room to work the puzzle together. We had a great talk . . . like ones we had in times past, when we had more one-on-one time. The talk warmed my heart! I realized Friday night that Haylee really gets it! When she accepted Jesus into her heart earlier this year, it was not because friends were doing it, or she though it would be cool, it was because deep down in her heart, she really knew that she wanted to run after Jesus all the days of her life!!! Friday night she opened up and was talking about how she knows she is supposed to focus on God, but sometimes life gets in the way (a hearts cry I am so familiar with). Then she got all excited and said "I can't wait until we meet Him in the air . . .what is that called again" I said "rapture". She said "yeah, rapture, that is going to be so neat". Just goes to prove that the Gospel message is so simple, even a child can get it. I love watching her get excited about God . . .and as KSBJ played in the background (yes, I still listen to Houston radio), it was fun watching her sing every word to almost every song.
Please pray for her as she continues to grow in the Lord and seeks after Him. Also, pray that one day Autumn will make that same public commitment to follow Jesus with everything she is.
Serving Him,
Jess

I enlarged the pic of Haylee with her glasses on and showed it to Parker. I asked him if he remembered her. He said yes, but she wasn't wearing glasses. It is crazy the things he remembers. Sorry to hear you're getting snow already. :) Jeremy would be jealous. Tell everyone we said hi.

Yah for SNOW! I actually drove in it back from St George as we caravanned (sp?) up helping some family move to Salt Lake. Even I am not reayd for snow yet. While you'd like a return to Summer, I simply feel robbed of my favorite season all year....FALL! Still keeping you in my prayers and hope that you'll feel God's guidance and love and you try and balance all the many twists in life!
