A Legacy Left Behind . . .

Today marks the 11 year anniversary of when Richard Wayne Mullins was killed in a car accident. I still recall watching "Z TV" (MTV of Christian music . . .back in the 1990's) and seeing the report that Rich had died . . . I was so, so sad!!! Rich was known as a great Christian musician who wrote and recorded numerous songs including favorites like "Step By Step" and "Awesome God". Rich Mullins is by far my favorite recording artist. His music is so filled with the wonders that many of us don't even think to ask about God. There is a depth to his lyrics that are hard to find in music today (although I have to say that Todd Agnew gets close). Rich brought an interesting sound to Christian music with his playing of the lap and hammer dulcimers (one of my favorite instruments to listen to).

I think the most inspiring thing about Rich was that he refused to let the glamour and fame of stardom go to his head. Most Christian artist do a great job of keeping a low profile and just glorifying our Great God with their ministry, and Rich was no exception. He lived a very humble life on an Indian Reservation in New Mexico. He did not want fame and fortune, he just wanted to love Jesus and share that with others!

Although I am sad we lost a great artist 11 years ago, I am thankful he shared his songs with us, and you can bet I will be looking him up on that day . . . when I go home! I have some of his songs on my playlist below . . . .

If you ever get the chance, listen to these favroites of mine by Rich Mullins
- Boy Like Me, Man Like You
- Calling Out Your Name
- My Dliverer
- Hold Me Jesus
- One Thing

Serving Him,
Jess
