Summers End, Hurricane Ike and a Fort? . . .

Fall is definately on the horizon. I do love the fall colors and I don't even mind the snow from say . . .December 1 - January 2. The morning are getting chillier and even during the day I do not get that instant defrost feeling when I walk out from my freezing office. Our pool is closed for the season, the days are shorter and my Christmas shopping is in full swing. I know you are thinking it is only September and I am shopping for Christmas . . . well I have, in fact been shopping for a couple months all ready!!! Don't tell the girls, but we decided a Wii would be a fun family gift this year. We got it about a month ago (knowing they will be impossible to find in a couple months). I continue to gather gifts here and there as I see things that look fun. And so even with the fun of Christmas on the way . . .I cling on to every bit of summer that I can, not wanting it to slip away!!

We had a pretty relaxing weekend. We had no big plans and I kinda like weekends like that! Friday night Autumn had gone to see her mom and Haylee was at the eye doctor, so we had a little time alone and decided to go out to dinner. It was a nice little date that I enjoyed sooo much!!!

Saturday morning the girls got up and decided to build a "fort" in their room. They gathered all the blankets, towels, pillows and clothes pins in the house and began clipping the blankets to their bed, art board, door and anything else they could use to hold the blankets up. They asked if they could sleep in the fort that night . . . and I, thinking of how nice it would be to have a young body and want to sleep on the floor, agreed that they could. Saturday night Jody had been invited to play Texas Hold Em with some people from work, so the girls and I had a "girls movie night". We got some junk food and planted ourselves on my bed where we watched Princess Diaries 2. When the movie was over the girls headed back to their room where they decided to take down the "fort" and re due it just on the bottom bunk and they would both sleep on Autumn's bed. Sunday morning I snuck in with the camera to get a couple pictures of them sleeping in their creation . . .

Here is Autumn, still sound asleep! In the middle of the bed (underneath) you can see a white and pink striped towel hanging down . . .this was the hammock that their babies (or Pabbage Catch Kids . . .as Autumn calls them) slept in for the night . . .
Here is Haylee snoozing. They have shared a bed a couple of times (I guess sleeping above each other just isn't good enough) I am not sure why they keep doing it. . . Haylee always complains that Autumn kicks and is hard to sleep with!
Sunday we got up and headed off to church. My parents picked the girls up from us at Jody's moms house and took them for a couple hours. I was kind of having a break down day and just needed a break from everything. So, so much has gone on in the past couple of months and I think I had finally reached my breaking point. Jody and I went home and just laid on our bed talking and it was WONDERFUL!!!! It is times like that, that I just fall in love with my husband all over again. I love when we get to spend a little one on one time and just talk and have no interruptions. We went to mom and dad's and picked up the girls around 4pm. The rest of the night was relaxing.
I have talked to Julie a couple times by text during and after Hurricane Ike made it's away across Texas. I have to say that the images on the Weather Channel just about break my heart. For anyone who has known me for . . .oh say a day or so, knows that next to Africa, I would prefer to be in Texas. Although I was not born and raised there . . .I claim it as home as my time there was so impressionable on my heart. As I look at places that I so enjoyed such as Kemah and Galveston, it crushes me to see the towns that are now piles of rubble. Keep them all in your prayers as the pick up and begin to rebuild.
Serving Him,
Jess

How cute!! I love those fort building days!! The worst is cleanin up the mess though, it always seems like you go crazy using anything and everything to put those together- and then before you know it.. you've got a major mess on your hands :) But always well worth the memories! Im glad you girls had fun!
